Personal Philosophy of Education

A person who is in education must be flexible, open minded, well balanced and forms relationships to help the success of all students. They must be part of the constantly changing pedagogical landscape and believe that learning involves reflection and action.  These are the main keys of a successful career in education.

As stated, the pedagogical landscape is constantly changing, modifying and accommodating the world around us.  Stakeholders within education, not just limited to administrators and teachers; however, support staff, parents/guardians, and students must be willing to not only change but adapt along with it. There is nothing worse than educational programs and personnel that sit stagnant, unwilling to grow.  While embracing new pedagogy is not always necessary, administrators and teachers should recognize the need they have to prepare their students for the dynamic world that waits for them.

Preparing students for the dynamic world entails setting an example for the students by learning and growing and showing their successes and failures.  Administrators and teachers are no longer the lecturers; while they may have mastered the context of the position, they should be steadily working on how that material is shared and what role the student has in the process.

Reflection is such an integral part of the educational process.  In order to access the efficacy and effectiveness of practice it is mandatory that administrators and teachers take stock of their own actions and review what they are doing and how they are doing it. Parents/Guardians, students and colleagues all form a collective pool that reflects the success of the administrator and teacher to deliver information to the student.

Though this is not my complete personal philosophy of education, I believe these are the main keys to a successful career in education.  Philosophies can only be measured in successes and progression of the individual student along with the programs within the school.
