Professional Biography

Hello and welcome to my "Meet the Teacher" page!

             My name is Ms. Erin Durkin and I am happy to continue with the eighth grade team this year. Hackettstown Middle School is such a wonderful place and I am thrilled to be working with such a great team of dedicated teachers and look forward to a productive year with the eighth grade students.

          I am an alumna of Centenary College and I hold a B.A. in English, an M.A. in English Literature, and have multiple teaching certificates: Teacher of English K-12, Teacher of Social Studies K-12, and Teacher of Students with Disabilities. I consider myself a lifelong learner and am always looking for new areas to explore. On weekends, my husband and I enjoy visiting National Parks and other historical sites. You can often find us on what we call 'literary weekends', exploring the sites of famous literary happenings.

         This year, we will be reading works by many great writers in ELA such as Ray Bradbury, William Shakespeare, and my favorite, Edgar Allan Poe.  The eighth grade curriculum is both challenging and exciting and I can't wait to share it with the students. This is a very exciting year and I hope to help you create wonderful memories from your last year at HMS.
