About Me

Ms. Diatta has been a Teacher of English Language Arts and Students with Disabilities in Morris County, NJ since 2014.  In recent years, she has directed school dramas, advised Student Council, and even taught part-time at a juvenile detention center.  Prior to teaching in public schools, she taught one-on-one reading at a private school for students with developmental disabilities. Her experiences have offered her opportunities to work with a diverse range of students of varied abilities, backgrounds, cultures, learning styles, and ages -- 8 weeks to 50+ years old. One of her most memorable experiences in education was teaching preschool, middle school, and community classes of adults in Moshi, Tanzania and Jambiani, Zanzibar, during the summer of 2015.

Ms. Diatta graduated as Class Valedictorian from Centenary University in 2014, where she obtained her B.A. in English, in addition to dual certification as a Teacher of English (P-12) and Teacher of Students with Disabilities (P-12).  During her undergraduate work, she spent a semester abroad in Seoul, South Korea, at Ewha Womans University, which was one of her most memorable experiences as a student. In 2017, she received her Masters of Education in Instruction from The College of New Jersey, where she was also asked to speak as a class representative. In 2021, she graduated from Jyoti Yoga and Healing’s Yoga Teacher Training (200HR YTT) and became a certified yoga teacher. Furthermore, she obtained an Environmental Sustainability Education endorsement from The College of New Jersey in 2023.  She continues to take graduate level classes in education and continuing education courses in yoga practice and sound healing, as she considers herself to be a lifelong learner. She eventually hopes to pursue her doctorate.

As both a professional and a person, Ms. Diatta has a strong commitment to social justice and believes that education is the key to liberation for all.  In her free time, she enjoys learning about and experiencing different cultures, exploring the natural world by hiking, gardening, and kayaking, going to concerts, exploring holistic wellness through healing modalities such as yoga, meditation, sound healing, and Ayurvedic practices, in addition to reading (of course!) and writing, especially poetry.  Her favorite color is purple.
