Title I Academic Support Clubs

Explanation/Description:

The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) is a Federal legislation to improve student achievement.  Our school receives funds to conduct programs to assist our students in meeting the New Jersey Core Curriculum Standards.  Hackettstown Middle School is committed to providing quality educational program to all students and through the ESSA Title I funds, we are able to provide students with additional Academic Support Instruction specifically to increase Literacy and Mathematic skills and understanding.

       

How are students selected?

Entrance Criteria:

Students are selected based on an analysis of multiple measures of data that include but are not limited to a previous NJSLA scores, teacher and/or team recommendation, current English Language Arts class average, previous school year’s final average, socioeconomics, and diagnostic assessment scores as well as parent permission must be provided prior to the student attending any of the meeting dates.  Specific criteria is provided below for each of the core academic clubs.

            Exit Criteria:

Students are exited based on an analysis of multiple measures of data that include but are not limited parent refusal, lack of student participation, progress denoted in current course(s), progress denoted in current year's benchmarks, and teacher and/or team recommendation

        

Expectations of Students:

Students are expected to attend every club meeting date (unless previously arranged). Students should plan on working on skill based activities as well as receiving help on in-class assignments and homework. Students will dedicate some of the time to organizational help and ensuring that they are prepared for the academic week ahead.

Academic Support Entrance Criteria:
  • English Language Arts
    • NJSLA-ELA Scores between 730-755
    • Teacher/Team recommendation,
    • Socioeconomic,
    • Previous year EOY grade (if applicable),
    • Current ELA averages,
    • IXL Diagnostic Assessment for ELA two or more below grade level, and
    • Parent permission.
  • Mathematics
    • NJSLA-Mathematics Scores between 720-755
    • Teacher/Team recommendation,
    • Socioeconomic,
    • Previous year EOY grade (if applicable),
    • Current Mathematics averages,
    • IXL Diagnostic Assessment for Mathematics two or more below grade level, and
    • Parent/Guardian permission.
  • Science
    • NJSLA-ELA Scores between 730-755
    • NJSLA-Mathematics Score 720-755
    • Teacher/Team recommendation,
    • Socioeconomic,
    • Previous year EOY grade (if applicable),
    • Current Science averages,
    • IXL Diagnostic Assessment for ELA and Mathematics two or more below grade level, and
    • Parent/Guardian permission.
  • Social Studies
    • NJSLA-ELA not applicable
    • Teacher/Team recommendation,
    • Socioeconomic,
    • Previous year EOY grade (if applicable),
    • Current Social Studies averages,
    • IXL Diagnostic Assessment for ELA two or more below grade level, and
    • Parent permission.
  • Reading
    • NJSLA score of 745 or below for ELA
    • DRA and/or IXL Diagnostic Assessment for Reading three or more below grade level
    • Previous EOY grade C or lower OR decoding screening test score of 70% or below
    • Teacher/Team recommendation, and
    • Parent/Guardian permission.
