Social Studies

The purpose of our social studies curriculum is to prepare young people to be rational, humane, participating citizens in our democratic, global society. Social studies explains students’ relationships and responsibilities to other people as well as to institutions and the environment. Students are equipped with the knowledge of the past in order to cope with the present and plan for the future. Problem-solving and decision-making skills are stressed. By the time students graduate from the eighth grade, we want them to have a clear understanding of geography, American government, culture, and history. Additionally, students should acquire an understanding for how to participate as a responsible citizen in the school, community, and world.
